Tribute To A Legend
To A Very Special Friend Who Truly Enhanced My Life
Ted Williams
Ted Williams was a wonderful man, and a legendary baseball great. He was
referred to as the greatest hitter who ever lived, the Splendid Splinter, and so
on, but I knew him only as Ted.
We met in 1994 as we were both going to the same rehabilitation center for
physical therapy. The first time we met was over a game of checkers. Our
therapists had thought it would be good for both of us to play checkers that day.
I was 17 and not very good at the game, so with a little coaching from
therapists and Ted letting me think he was a poor player ...I won that game. He
still owes me a re-match.
After that he took an immediate liking to me. He always said it was my smile
and determination. Ted made it possible for me to go away to college by
starting a scholarship program for me. Unfortunately, nobody else was able to
benefit after I graduated from the University in 2002 due to Ted's passing in
July of that same year.
I decided to continue it in his memory thus creating "Ted's Dream Scholarship."
He will always be a special part of my life. I'm very grateful for everything he
gave me, but most of all I'm truly grateful to have had him in my life. Ted will
be forever in my heart.
